Pelosi again dodges whether she’ll run for speaker if Democrats retain chamber

On Sunday, Pelosi said, “I have never been asked by any of my colleagues that question. I am not sure what they mean by it.” She then referred other questions to her congressional Republican and Democratic leaders.

The most recent example of Pelosi avoiding the question came on Wednesday, when asked by a reporter how she would vote on opening an impeachment inquiry. She told reporters, “I have no idea. But I will tell you I will not decide a thing until we have the information we need, and that includes the evidence.”

If the Democrats win the House, Pelosi will not run for the speaker position, leaving a seat open after the election. If Pelosi does run, she’d have to win a majority in the first ballot vote.

If the Democrats lose the House, then Pelosi’s seat will remain vacant until after the new congress is seated.

Pelosi’s answer to a reporter’s question is consistent with her repeated statements that she will not decide on an impeachment vote until the evidence in the case has been made public.
