The Way It Is Going to Be for San Diego

Letters to the Editor: Why I am telling my neighbors that Kevin de León must resign

We live in a diverse community, and we should be proud of all it has offered to us. I have grown up and made the most of having the advantages that have been given me. I have had good access to all of the important resources that this community has to offer; a good education from a good home where I could have found a good job, good access to the good medical care my parents provided, a place where I could have found a good marriage. I have even been able to help my father get married, though he was already married.

Kevin de León and his supporters are right to say we need to find a new representative. But how many neighborhoods can say that what they have offered in the past that they can offer to the future?

I will be one of the first in the future, as I will be running for the District 3 seat. I will do all that is in my power to represent a district that only in recent years was able to provide a well-educated educated woman with opportunities that many other places in San Diego County simply do not provide, and this community that is becoming increasingly diverse and will continue to do so.

The only way Kevin de León can justify his position is by saying that we have been doing the same thing for the last decade. If we can no longer be the neighborhood where people get good education and good jobs and access to good medical care, then we have no business in being in the neighborhood Kevin de León is trying to represent.

This is the way it is going to be for San Diego. We all know that. We all have to make the best of what we have, and we all have to grow up with our own families. What we have to do is make sure we give everyone the opportunities and resources available to us, and Kevin will make us all very proud when we say we have made a difference. We have. We can.
